Intent:

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Institutional Requirement (I.) requires institutions that sponsor graduate medical education programs to be appropriately organized for the conduct of such education in a scholarly environment and be committed to excellence in both education and medical care.

Policy Statement:

The Dean of the College of Medicine is responsible for ensuring that Graduate Medical Education sponsored by the University of Florida is carried out in compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requirements.

Description:

The Dean of the College of Medicine is responsible for all graduate medical education activities sponsored by the University of Florida. The Dean shall appoint a Senior Associate Dean for Education and the Senior Associate Dean and the Dean will appoint an Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education (ADGME). The ADGME will serve as chairman of the Graduate Medical Education Committee and is responsible for ensuring compliance with all aspects of the Institutional Requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate medical Education. The ADGME will assist the programs by performing periodic reviews along with other members of the Graduate Medical Education Committee to ensure that the programs are in compliance with the Program Requirements for those particular specialties. The ADGME will also liaison with the Graduate Medical Education Committee and programs at other sites sponsored by the University of Florida in order to assure that these programs are in compliance with all regulations. The ADGME will also provide liaison with the Director of Graduate Medical Education in Jacksonville to ensure appropriate consistency with the programs in Jacksonville. The ADGME will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Education in all matters pertinent to graduate medical education.
