Program Policies
Back to Policies and Procedures
Intent:
The ACGME requires programs to have policies and procedures consistent with program and Institutional Requirements.
Policy Statement:
Each program will develop a policies and procedure manual that will be reviewed by the internal review process.
Description:
Each program will develop specific Program Requirements that cover at a minimum the following:
- (IR) = Institutional Requirement
- (PR) = Program Requirement
Benefits - (IR)
Annual Leave
Housestaff may be permitted to carry over unused leave to a new year, as consistent with departmental policy, however, carryover must be approved by the program director and an excess of twenty-five (25) workdays cannot be accumulated.
On-Call
As a general rule, living quarters and laundry, other than on-call, are not provided by the institution. Some departmental exceptions to this may exist for residents who are sent to specific rotations outside of the immediate home area. Departmental policies will govern provision of living quarters at these sites.
Duty Hours - (IR)
Each residency program must establish formal policies governing resident duty hours that are consistent with appropriate care of patients and resident educational goals.
Educational Goals and Objectives - (PR)
Each program shall develop educational goals and objectives for the program as a whole and for each component of the program.
Evaluation - (IR & PR)
Each program is responsible for developing its own policy monitoring tool for the evaluation of the resident's progress.
Guidelines for Technical Standards for Residency Training
Each program is responsible for the development of technical standards necessary to complete their graduate medical education program.
Outside Employment - (IR)
Each program must have a policy regarding outside and extracurricular (moonlighting) employment which meets RRC requirements and University of Florida College of Medicine policy.
Promotion of Residents - (IR)
Each program must develop criteria by which residents will advance in the program.
Quality Assurance - (IR)
Ultimately each department and program must have a process to ensure that quality improvement is part of the daily educational structure of the residency. Each program must demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement and be able to demonstrate resident participation during periodic internal reviews.
Resident Curriculum - (IR)
Each program is responsible for the content of resident curriculum and that curriculum will be reviewed at each internal review.
Selection of Residents - (IR)
Each program must establish formal written criteria and processes for the selection of residents.
Supervision of Residents - (IR)
Each program will provide appropriate supervision for all residents, as well as a duty hour schedule and a work environment, that is consistent with proper patient care, the educational needs of residents, and the applicable program requirements.
