Rotation Outside Major Participating Institutions
Back to Policies and Procedures
Intent:
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Institutional Requirement (I. C.) requires that institutional agreements have a specific content.
Policy Statement:
The sponsoring institution remains responsible for the quality of the educational experiences for residents in participating institutions. Agreements must exist between the sponsoring institution and all of its major participating institutions.
A major participating institution is an institution to which residents rotate for required experience and/or those that require explicit approval by the appropriate Residency Review Committee prior to utilization. Major participating institutions are listed as part of the accrediting program in Graduate Medical Education Directory.
Description:
The College of Medicine is responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate letters of agreement with each participating institution where resident education occurs. The agreements should:
- identify the officials at the participating institution or facility who will assume administrative, educational, and supervisory responsibility for the resident(s).
- outline the educational goals and objectives to be attained within the participating institutions;
- specify the period of assignment of the residents to the participating institution, the financial arrangements, and the details for insurance and benefits;
- determine the participating institution's responsibilities for teaching, supervision, and formal evaluation of the residents' performances; and
- establish with the participating institution the policies and procedures that govern the residents' education while rotating to the participating institution.
Accordingly, these agreements will be monitored as part of the internal review process.
